Independent Testing
Dr. Ken Visser Ph.D. from the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering of Clarkson University evaluated the performance of two WindTamer rotor configurations. The tests were completed at the Clarkson Wind Turbine Test Site and areas around Geneseo, New York.
His report demonstrated that:
- WindTamer turbines have an efficiency (or power coefficient) of over twice that of small turbines on the market today.
- WindTamer turbines exceed the theoretical 59.3% limit (Betz’ limit) of extracting power from the wind.
- WindTamer turbines produce little noise.
- WindTamer turbines experience less wear and fatigue on the blades.
- There is no need to brake a WindTamer turbine in high winds, so the turbines can continue to produce power in higher winds. This greatly increases the amount of energy harvested from the wind.
The report includes the performance at various wind speeds, as well as the power output for different size units.
