“I wasn’t looking to reinvent the wheel, just how the wheel turned.”
– Gerald E. Brock, WindTamer Inventor
Gerald Brock is the inventor of WindTamer wind turbines. While looking for ways to improve the aerodynamics of electric cars, Jerry discovered what would become his groundbreaking, patented technology. His main focus was static pressure, or pressure that forms in air that can slow a vehicle. But he soon realized that by manipulating static pressure he could increase the speed of wind through a turbine, and that “diffuser augmented wind turbine” (DAWT) technology was the best way to harness energy from the wind. He had come across something great. A real solution for the inefficiency that plagued small-wind turbines, including previous models that used DAWT technology.
Brock developed the WindTamer turbine by using the power of his three-wind system. He assembled prototypes that put his improved diffuser augmented wind turbine (DAWT) technology to use, finally making small wind a practical alternative energy solution. He created a business plan and raised over $1.5M in the birth place of his new product – his garage.
Rather than sell his idea, Jerry had a vision of building a company that would create jobs and increase America’s energy independence. Today, WindTamer Corporation is a small but rapidly growing publicly traded company. Currently based in Rochester, NY, WindTamer Corporation is selling its turbines while continually improving the technology. With its commitment to bringing wind power down to earth, WindTamer Corporation is making energy efficiency, and being environmentally and socially responsible, practical.
